Matcha First Flavour for Innovative Asian Favourites Gelati Range

The release of Matcha will be the first of a new Asian inspired flavours gelati range being introduced by Gelista today. The new initiative will add weight to the claim that Adelaide based artisan gelati maker, Gelista, is one of the nation’s leading innovators in the premium ice cream and gelati market.

The Australian family-owned business has become synonymous with innovation and excellence. Gelista is believed to have been the first company to release ice cream or gelati in a see-through jar nationally in premium food supermarkets in 2015. It was the first (and remains the only) nationally distributed commercial producer of a sherbet with the “Blood Orange and Dark Chocolate” flavour, and last year it launched the Dubai style chocolate inspired pistachio with choc and kataifi coating in its stick range. It has continued to innovate over the years as a result of working with leading chefs and restaurants across the nation.

With a culturally diverse workforce bringing a high level of creativity to new product development, strong success working with a diverse range of leading restaurants across the nation, and with recent export success in southeast Asia, the new range of Asian Favourites Gelati in consumer take-home jars was an obvious next step.

“With over 70 flavours in our food service range, we can quickly identify trending flavours that are perfect for taking to the consumer retail market”, says Gelista founder and Managing Director, Peter Cox. “We are confident in the authenticity and excellence of Gelati based on our commitment to quality ingredients, adoption of key artisan making techniques and the collaboration with leading chefs who don’t settle for second best.”

The Asian Favourites Range will see flavours launched in the retail segment that have already been highly successful in culturally specific segments of the restaurant and catering market and are likely to attract wider retail appeal.

“The Matcha product, using genuine high grade Japanese matcha, was developed many years ago for a premium desserts house in Brisbane and has since been used by chefs all over the country”, says Peter Cox. “With a history of supplying these restaurants for many years, coupled with the increasing popularity of Matcha, we consider the timing is perfect.”

Gelista is planning the release of a new flavour every quarter, having a full multi-product Asian Favourites range by the end of the year.

The new range uses ingredients that are unique and often hard to get at the quality standard demanded by Gelista. For this reason, the range will not be line priced with the existing consumer take-home jars. To differentiate them, the 500mL Asian Favourites Range will be packaged in a traditional Gelista jar but with a black label to set it apart as a range.

In-market trials of the products identified strong volumes in specialty Asian grocers, along with traditional supermarkets with a “Specialty Asian” section. This is a great opportunity for specialty food retailers to expand their appeal with a more culturally diverse market.
